Job Title: Prep School MFL teacher

Role: Prep MFL teacher

Hours: 0.2 equivalent– this can be taken over 1 full day or 2 half days to suit candidate

Salary: £5,000 per annum (32 teaching weeks per year)

Start Date – Jan 2026.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and self-motivated teacher to join our teaching team within our unique Independent Day School.

The Role:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced MFL teacher to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will take on the teaching of MFL across our school, from year 1-6 (initially) with scope for increased days with the addition of a year 7/8 cohort from September 2027..

Key Responsibilities:

● MFL Teaching: Deliver engaging and effective French and Spanish lessons to children from Reception to year 6 fostering a love for foreign languages and culture.

● Leading MFL specialist days and extra-curricular activities: Organise and lead extracurricular language-related activities, such as language clubs, cultural events, and trips (for additional salary if on your non working day).

● Encourage student participation in language competitions and external events.

● Classroom management: Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and engagement.

● Pastoral Care: Provide support and guidance to students, contributing to their overall well-being and personal development.

● Parental Engagement: Communicate effectively with parents, providing regular updates on their child’s progress and well-being.

● School Community: Participate in school events, extracurricular activities, and the broader school community activities.

Qualifications and Experience:

● Qualifications: A relevant teaching qualification or a degree in a language or related field.

● Experience: Proven teaching experience

● Passion for Education: A genuine passion for teaching and inspiring young minds.

Enthusiasm for the subject and ability to motivate students in a creative setting.

● Skills: Strong organisational and leadership skills, particularly in managing whole school events. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

● Adaptability: Flexible and willing to contribute to various aspects of school life. You will be expected to run an MFL club for a term, once club per year and attend various FOCs (Friends of Chard School) events outside of the working work (around 3 each year).

Desirable:

● Experience teaching languages up to year 8

● Proficiency in at least two modern foreign languages.

● Familiarity with the independent school sector.
